House mice are curious toward new objects (neophilia), making them initially easier to trap than rats. However, within mouse colonies, dominant mice stay tucked away in safe hiding spots while younger mice explore and encounter traps first. This means trapping alone often fails to eliminate the breeding population in wall voids, which is why sealing entry points is essential.
