Eastern Saltmarsh Mosquito

Unlike the northern house mosquito or Asian tiger mosquito, this species breeds in coastal soil rather than city gutters, containers, and drains.
About this species
The eastern saltmarsh mosquito is primarily a concern for properties near coastal marshes, not the urban neighborhoods MMPC typically services. For NYC residents dealing with mosquitoes, a coastal species is almost certainly not the cause. The far more likely culprits are urban-adapted species breeding on or near your property.

Golden brown with pale stripes
Key ID Features:
- 6 spindly, brown legs with pale bands and a yellow section in the middle
- Feathery (plumose) antennae
- Small head with large compound eyes and a long, needle-like tube
- Slender body with a long, cylindrical abdomen and pale stripes
- 1 pair of narrow, membranous wings
